Steamy Romance Authors that DO NOT Write Porn

I don’t know all of these authors personally (yet…winks), but I don’t believe that any of them would consider what they write to be porn. One thing I want to do is get into reviewing books individually and talking more about my thoughts on writing, BUT an easy way for me to close the loop on my thoughts is to offer recommendations for some of the points I am making.

I read a lot (it comes with being a writer), so I’ve found through the years that there are just a few writers that I enjoy when I want a little heat. I’m not necessarily talking about a tingle in my nether-regions, but if that gets inspired, I’m not mad or offended by it.

Anyway, here are some authors that really know how to bring the heat:

Katrina Jackson

This woman flew under the radar for me for a while, but I’m so glad that I stumbled upon her work. Two of my favorite books from her are “Office Hours” and “Neighborly.” She can also write both traditional monogamous relationships and non-monogamous relationships very well. However, that is not why she is good at writing steam. She really knows how to evoke that “flushed cheek” feeling. That is super rare. It’s almost like you feel the main character’s shyness and arousal all at the same time. Definitely a must read/follow author.

I’ve also heard that the audiobook to “Office Hours” is absolutely divine!!!

Talia Hibbert

I could gush about this woman for a while, but I’m going to just keep it to a minimum. She. Writes. Good. Stories. Her trope of choice is the grumpy female MC with what we call a cinnamon bun male interest (meaning he is extra sweet). I prefer honey buns, but I digress. Don’t get it twisted though. She can write queer characters as well. In fact, most of her characters fall outside of the traditional heteronormative box. I’m sure there are those that would say she isn’t perfect, but who is?

Did I not mention the woman knows how to do a series. Whether it is the Kabbah sisters or the Brown sisters, I am always going back for a re-read. Another favorite of mine is “The Fake Boyfriend Fiasco.” She can definitely bring the heat and lets you really see how the male interest desires our MC. A good one to cut your teeth on is “The Princess Trap.” I’m not even a fan of the fake-dating/fake fiance trope, and I find myself going back to these books of hers at random moments. Trust me, she’s good.

T.M. Richardson

Richardson is a newly published author that brought the heat from the beginning with her first published novel. You may have heard of it, “The Build Up.” Since then, she has been pushing the envelope on how sex is portrayed. It’s not the typical young, skinny, virginal woman in her books. Her female MC’s have curves and a little bit of seasoning, which to me makes for a better character. When her characters have sex, you feel like you are in the room but have every right to be there because of how juicy the entire story is.

She has also been pushing the envelope on her level of steam in other venues as well. Her new release “The Oath,” will have you reaching for a bottle of water in attempts to cool off multiple times.

I also heard that she has some new stuff coming down the pipeline…

Blue Sapphire

Last but certainly not least is Blue Sapphire. I would consider her books to be in the Dark Romance category, or at least Dark Romance adjacent. (More on my opinions about that genre later.) She is also another one that knows how to write a series. I am obsessed with the Black brothers (or the Brothers Black…iykyk). Though my favorite book is “Dr. Feel Good.” Dr. Omid has me swooning every time. That’s what Blue brings to the table, here male interests will have you wondering when you decided you wanted to be pregnant. I’m just saying…you’ve been warned.

Writing steamy romances involves so much craft that it isn’t even funny. Even writing sex scenes for my own debut erotic romance, required so much time and planning because there had to be a story to carry the scene. These authors write stories so good that they don’t even need the sex scenes, but then why would they torture us in this way, you know?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy these recs and find perhaps a new author to fawn over. Until next time. Later babes…
